KRAMA (Lifestyle Program)
About this category
What "Krama" means here. Krama is the classical word for the graded path: the right practice, in the right order, at the right pace. It is not a beginner-to-advanced ladder. It is the way Ayurveda and yoga were always meant to be lived, one layer at a time, until the practice stops being something you do and becomes the way you live. The word already sits inside both traditions: samsarjana krama is the graded return to food after a cleanse, and in yoga it names sequenced sadhana. Your path here is a krama: one month, then a season, then half a year, then you continue.
Why this exists now. Most chronic modern illness is not one broken part. In Ayurvedic language it is three things at once: ama, the residue that builds when digestion is weak; a lost daily and seasonal rhythm (dinacharya and ritucharya); and prajñāparādha, the long habit of living against what we already know is good for us. You do not undo that in a weekend retreat. You re-order a life, gradually. That is what Krama is built to do.
The classical model we work from. Yoga's model of a human being, drawn from the Taittiriya Upanishad, describes a person as five layers, koshas, nested inside one another from the most physical to the most subtle:
- Annamaya kosha, the food layer: the physical body, sustained by what you eat, how you move, how you rest.
- Pranamaya kosha, the breath layer: the energy that runs the body's actual functioning, reached through breath.
- Manomaya kosha, the mind layer: thought, emotion, habit, the felt experience of a day.
- Vijnanamaya kosha, the wisdom layer: self-knowledge, discernment, understanding your own nature and patterns.
- Anandamaya kosha, the bliss layer: the depth reached through stillness, meditation and genuine community, not achieved but touched.
This is the reason a Deoshala programme includes a doctor, an astrologer, a yoga teacher and a community together. A massage alone only ever touches the first layer. A programme that leaves out any of the five is treating a fraction of a person. This is presented as yoga philosophy and the science of living well, not as religious instruction: the map, not a creed.
How each part of a Krama programme maps to the five layers:
- Annamaya · body, food: prakriti-based diet and nutrition, Abhyanga and other therapies, asana practice, and in the six-month tier, clinical bloodwork and strength.
- Pranamaya · breath: pranayama, breathwork, cleansing kriyas.
- Manomaya · mind: daily and weekly coaching, dinacharya support, WhatsApp check-ins, lifestyle guidance.
- Vijnanamaya · self-knowledge: Jyotish (Vedic astrology), philosophy sessions, prakriti-vikriti assessment.
- Anandamaya · stillness, community: meditation, Deoshala Sangha satsangs, seva (community service).
