SHODHANA · Panchakarma

About this category

What "Shodhana" means here. Shodhana is the classical word for purification: the removal of what has accumulated, so the body can return to its own clean functioning. It is the deep-clean half of Ayurvedic medicine, paired against shamana (pacification, the daily-rhythm work your programme already does). Panchakarma, the "five actions," is how shodhana is carried out.

Why it is an add-on, never included. In classical Ayurveda the cleanse is the smallest part of the work, and it only does what it is meant to do on a prepared body. You build agni (digestive fire) and rhythm first; then you release. Dropping an unprepared body into a full intensive is not deeper, it is riskier and it holds less. So Shodhana is offered on its own terms: added to a Krama programme when your body is genuinely ready, taken standalone, or curated into your own pack.

How every Shodhana is structured. Whatever the length, the classical order is the same, a krama in itself:

  1. Purvakarma (preparation): snehana (internal and external oleation) and swedana (sudation), which loosen ama (accumulated residue) and move it toward the channels that can clear it.
  2. Pradhankarma (the main action): the targeted karma itself, chosen for your constitution and current imbalance rather than applied by formula. Depending on what is indicated, this draws from virechana (purgation), basti (medicated enema, considered half of all treatment), nasya (nasal), vamana (therapeutic emesis) and raktamokshana (bloodletting).
  3. Paschatkarma (integration): samsarjana krama, the graded return from light food back to a full diet, plus rest and, at the longer tiers, a rasayana (rejuvenation) tail. This is the part most detox retreats skip, and the part that decides whether the results hold.

How we run it. Center-based in Ibiza with a home protocol, non-residential, timed wherever possible to Ritu Sandhi, the junction between seasons, when the body most naturally wants to release. Every Shodhana begins with an agni and prakriti-vikriti check, so the length and the karma are matched to you, not chosen from a menu.
